SeqWord Gene Island Sniffer: a Program to Study the Lateral Genetic Exchange among Bacteria
ثبت نشده
چکیده
SeqWord Gene Island Sniffer, a new program for the identification of mobile genetic elements in sequences of bacterial chromosomes is presented. This program is based on the analysis of oligonucleotide usage variations in DNA sequences. 3,518 mobile genetic elements were identified in 637 bacterial genomes and further analyzed by sequence similarity and the functionality of encoded proteins. The results of this study are stored in an open database (http://anjie.bi.up.ac.za/geidb/geidbhome.php). The developed computer program and the database provide the information valuable for further investigation of the distribution of mobile genetic elements and virulence factors among bacteria. The program is available for download at www.bi.up.ac.za/SeqWord/sniffer/index.html. Keywords—mobile genetic elements, virulence, bacterial genomes.

Study of genetic diversity of Dussumieria acuta (Valenciennes, 1847) in Persian Gulf and Oman sea (Coast of the Hormozgan Province) using Cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (COI)
In this study 12 specimens were collected from Bandar Jask, Qeshm Island and Bandare Lengeh in Hormozgan Province. DNA extraction was performed using Phenol-Chloroform method. A partial DNA sequence of Cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (COI) was used to evaluate genetic diversity. The sequence of Cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene was done using specific primers designed based on sequences regis...
متن کاملGenetic Identification of Symbiodinium in Genus Acropora off Farur Island, Persian Gulf
Coral reefs which form some of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth support many symbiotic relationships. Symbiodinium can provide up to 90% of a coral.s energy requirements. Temperature rise, turbid water and high salinity in the Persian Gulf were among the factors separating zooxanthellae from corals and result in bleaching phenomenon. Therefore, it is crucial to identify Symbiodinium of the ...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity and Population Structure of Liza klunzingeri from the Northern Persian Gulf Based on AFLP Analysis
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the genetic diversity and population structure of Liza klunzingeri in two regions of the Persian Gulf. In this study, the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was employed to analyze population genetic diversity between two populations (Ziyarat & Hendijan). Seven primer combinations (E-AAG/M-CTA, E-ACT/ M-CAA, E-ACT/ M-CTA, E-AAG/M-CTG,...
متن کاملPrevalence of Class 1 Integron in Klebsiella Pneumoniae Isolates from Hospitals of Sanandaj, Iran
Background and Aims: Integrons as mobile genetic elements are located on the chromosome or on a plasmid in bacteria. Integrons play a main role in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes among different families of bacteria. The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence of class 1 integron in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from hospitals of Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, Iran. M...
متن کاملGene Probe Designing for Evaluation of the Diversity of Bradyrhizobium japonicum Isolates
Many researchers consider the use of different probes for hybridization assays as suitable for studying the genetic diversity of nitrogen fixing bacteria. In this study for asessing genetic diversity among Bradyrhizobium japonicum isolates, two different probes (sucA and topA) chosen from the chromosomal genome of Bradyrhizobium strain USDA 110 were designed, evaluated by DNAMAN software and im...
